HKBU receives HK$1 million donation from Mrs. Lee Siu Lun
The University recently received a generous donation of HK$1 million from Mrs. Lee Ser Siu Hung, wife of Mr. Lee Siu Lun, in support of the establishment of the “Mr. and Mrs. Lee Siu Lun Scholarship”. In the five academic years starting from 2020-2021, a scholarship of HK$50,000 will be awarded annually to four students each who demonstrates excellent conduct and academic performance. A total of 20 students will be benefitted from this Scholarship.
On 7 July 2020, Mrs. Lee hosted a dinner for HKBU representatives together with family members Mr. Henry Lee and Mrs. Teresa Lee, Dr. Herbert Lee and Ms. Violet Lee. HKBU representatives attending the dinner included Professor Roland T. Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor, and Mrs. Zina Chin; Mr. Yeung Chee Kong, Associate Vice-President (Engagement); and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation. Mr. Ho Ting Sik and Mrs. Ho So Kwok Ying, friends of the Lee family, and Mr. Leung Shuet Ping also joined the gathering. During the dinner, Professor Chin presented souvenirs to Mrs. Lee in appreciation of the Lee family’s long-standing support and great care for the University.
The late Mr. Lee Siu Lun was an Honorary University Fellow of HKBU and Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation. Mr. Lee and his wife have been benevolent philanthropists who have made generous contributions towards the University’s various endeavours over the years, including the Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning, the School of Chinese Medicine and the Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology. They also provided financial assistance for HKBU students to engage in service tours on the Mainland. In recognition of Mr. and Mrs. Lee’s generosity, the Learning Commons on the sixth floor of the Fong Shu Chuen Library was named the “Mr. and Mrs. Lee Siu Lun Learning Commons” in 2016.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic downturn, family members of many HKBU students are now suffering from unemployment or salary cuts. We are deeply grateful to Mrs. Lee for her timely gift to help HKBU provide support for our students during such difficult time. This Scholarship will definitely serve as a financial relief as well as a source of encouragement to our students.
