HKBU receives HK$3 million donation from Rebecca Chan Care Foundation for Education
The University recently received a generous donation of HK$3 million from the Rebecca Chan Care Foundation for Education in support of the establishment of the “Rebecca Chan First-Generation University Student Fund”, which will support eight first-generation university students at HKBU each year to participate in outside-of-classroom learning activities.
The Rebecca Chan Care Foundation for Education is founded with the estate of Ms. Rebecca Chan Chi Fun, former Director of Kan Hing Plastic Products Factory Limited (now known as Tiger Enterprise Corporation). The Chan family has been a longstanding supporter of HKBU, making generous donations to the University and the School of Chinese Medicine in particular through the Chan Hon Yin Couple Charity Trust. Ms. Rebecca Chan’s brother Mr. Anthony Chan, Managing Director of Tiger Enterprise Corporation, currently serves as Honorary Court Member of HKBU and Member of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation. He has been providing strategic advice on the fundraising endeavours of the University. His daughter Ms. Donna Chan and his son Mr. Alan Chan are also very supportive of HKBU’s advancement. Ms. Donna Chan is the sole executrix of Ms. Rebecca Chan Chi Fun’s estate, while Mr. Alan Chan is Member of the Young Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation.
HKBU established the First-Generation University Student Fund to provide first-generation local undergraduates with financial assistance and guidance in expanding their participation in outside-of-classroom learning. The University is deeply grateful for the generous contribution of the Chan family in helping our students to engage in diverse outside-of-classroom activities, which are essential for their whole person development and future career exploration.
