HKBU Foundation members attend HKBU Annual Gala Concert 2022
The Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra presented an innovative performance showcasing human creativity alongside artificial intelligence at its Annual Gala Concert in Hong Kong City Hall on 14 July 2022.
Dubbed “A Lovers’ Reunion”, the Concert was an accredited event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It featured the world’s first-of-its-kind human-machine collaborative performance by HKBU symphony orchestra, together with AI media artist, AI virtual choir and dancers. This AI-powered performance was developed and directed by a team of researchers from HKBU’s Augmented Creativity Lab, which was led by Professor Guo Yike, Vice-President (Research and Development), and Professor Johnny M Poon, Deputy Project Coordinator, Founding Dean of the School of Creative Arts, music director and conductor of the HKBU Symphony Orchestra and the Collegium Musicum Hong Kong.
The Concert received an overwhelming response with nearly 800 government officials, dignitaries and guests in attendance, including Mr. Kevin Yeung Yun Hung, JP, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the HKSAR; Dr. Clement Chen, GBS, JP, Ir Professor Paul Poon and Ms. Rosanna Choi, Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Treasurer respectively of the Council and the Court and Professor Alexander Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor.
A number of Foundation members and guests also joined this special occasion. They included Dr. Chiu Chun Bong, MBE, JP, and Mrs. Luna Chiu; Ms. Eileen Tsui, BBS, JP; Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Chu; Mr. So Wing Kin; Mr. Wong Nga Chung; Ms. Belinda Hung; Mr. Tin Wing Sin; Mr. Lam Cho Kwong, Mr. Yiu Yu Hung and Ms. May So; Mr. Herman Hui; Professor James Tsien and Professor Teresa Tsien; Professor Sunny Wong; Dr. Terence Chan; Mr. Ivan Wong, JP; Mr. Anson Chan; Mr. Eric Chow; Mr. Kelvin Kwai; Mr. Philip Kan, MH; Mr. Samuel Lau; Mr. Alex Leung and Mr. Tyrone Siu. Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, also attended the Concert.
