HKBU held a banquet in honour of Professor Albert Chan on his retirement

To bid farewell to Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, who was retiring as President and Vice-Chancellor, the University held a banquet in honour of Professor Chan at Holiday Inn Golden Mile Hong Kong on 26 June 2015. The banquet was well attended by over 500 guests including Council and Court members, HKBU Foundation members, government officials, staff, alumni, students and friends of the University.

Speaking at the banquet, Dr. Wilfred Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the HKBU Foundation and former Chairman of the Council and the Court, recalled the very first time when he introduced Professor Chan to the University’s faculty and staff. He praised Professor Chan as an extraordinary scientist with poetic gift. He was also full of drive and passion. Dr. Wong hoped that Professor Chan would never settle and continue his support for the University's development.

Besides, Dr. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP and Dr. Simon Suen, JP, members of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, shared their memorable moments with Professor Chan and their affections for him. Dr. Sze Chi Ching, JP, donor of the University and a calligrapher, presented a couplet in his calligraphy as a souvenir to Professor Chan in recognition of his excellent presidency.

In his remarks, Professor Chan thanked all Foundation members for their generous donations and commitment to education. He said the donors supported the University wholeheartedly and were the role models of the public. He also presented a distinctive bookmark imprinted with a poem composed by him to all the guests as a token of appreciation. Please click the icon below for the highlights of the banquet.
