2018 CLAP for Youth @ JC Annual Conference
Created and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, CLAP for Youth @ JC organised its 4th Annual Conference on 21-22 June 2018 at HKBU. With the theme of “Life & Career: Imagination and Challenges in the 21st Century”, this two-day conference explored the role of career and life development for young people and how they can best equip themselves to seize the opportunity in the ever-changing society.
The opening ceremony of the conference was officiated by Mr. Cheung Leong, Executive Director, Charities and Community of The Hong Kong Jockey Club; Dr. Christine Choi, JP, Acting Secretary for Education; Professor Roland T. Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU; and Professor Alvin Leung, Chief Principal Investigator of CLAP for Youth @ JC. Apart from providing a platform for the project teams to share with stakeholders their past three years’ experience in providing career and life development support to the younger generation in Hong Kong, the conference invited business elites, scholars, social welfare professionals and policy makers to share their opinions and potential solutions with youths, on the topic of Hong Kong’s talent mismatch challenges at the roundtable session.
The conference has featured a number of overseas academics and representatives from various sectors to deliver keynote, plenaries and parallel sessions. Professor Alvin Leung, Chief Principal Investigator of CLAP for Youth @ JC, revealed the programme's key achievements to date, while Professor Victor Wong, Principal Investigator (Community), shared his insights on delivering and reviewing workplace learning experience informed by expanded notion of work, and Dr. Sarah Luk, Associate Head of School Support and Administration, illustrated the practice model of school consultation on career and life planning intervention.
“Youth-led” was another highlight of the conference. 20 young people from the project performed a musical to spread the message of “You are the boss of your life” (Video Highlights). Around 100 young people served as youth instructors to plan and lead different career experiential activities for participants to understand how non-paid experiences help individuals develop personal abilities including values, attitudes, skills and knowledge. Four popular young KOLs were invited to share their journey of identifying their values and directions through interest development at the CLAP Talks “From digital games to social innovation”.
CLAP for Youth @ JC is Hong Kong’s first cross-sectoral support platform that helps students and non-engaged youth navigate their futures. This five-year programme will provide a series of activities to foster an enabling environment for the youth in pursuing their life and career pathways. CLAP for Youth @ JC was launched in May 2015 with a HK$500 million donation funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
