Admission Scholarship Scheme for Outstanding South and South East Asian Ethnic Minority Students

10 January 2019

To encourage outstanding local ethnic minority students to pursue studies in undergraduate programmes, the University launched the “Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association Admission Scholarship Scheme for Outstanding South and South East Asian Ethnic Minority Students” for two consecutive years. This year, six out of nearly 40 applicants have been awarded the scholarship.

The Scheme, the first of its kind among local universities, was established with the generous support from the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation. In addition to receiving full-tuition scholarships, the awardees are given priority in participating in global exchange activities, and a dedicated mentor will be appointed for each awardee to help them with academic as well as non-academic matters. The awardees also act as cultural ambassadors through a variety of activities that will help HKBU achieve its mission of promoting Whole Person Education and encouraging students to learn more about diversified cultures.

“The scholarship has helped me in many ways that I have never thought of or expected. With this financial support, I can concentrate on my study and participate in many extracurricular activities and academic exchange with no worries. Studying at HKBU not only enhances my personal development, but also gives me lots of opportunities to meet with people from around the world. Thanks to the donor’s generous contribution, I have become more independent and self-confident.”

“As a member of an ethnic minority in Hong Kong, I am truly grateful for the opportunity for minorities like me to study at a university where individuals are encouraged to develop and showcase their all-round abilities. With this scholarship, I will do my utmost to inspire other ethnic minority people and encourage them to speak out in society.”
