The “Hallyu Haru! Korean Fiesta 2023”- HKBU Consul-General-in-Residence Programme (CGiR) was held on 13 April 2023, attracting more than 1,500 students and staff. Jointly organised by Hong Kong Baptist University, the Korean Cultural Centre in Hong Kong and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong, supported by the Korea Tourism Organization Hong Kong Branch and sponsored by the Lam Kin Chung Morning Sun Charity Fund, Honorary Vice-President of the HKBU Foundation, the Fiesta aimed to promote cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Korea.

Officiating at the ceremony were Mr. Baek Yong Chun, Consul-General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong; Mr. Lee Young Ho, Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong; Ms. Ryoo Hyea Sook, President of the National Institute of International Education; Mr. Cho Sung Keon, Chairman of the Korean Residents Association Hong Kong; Ms. Moon Sun Ok, Director of the Korea Tourism Organization Hong Kong Branch; Professor Alexander Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU; Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) and Acting Dean of Arts of HKBU; Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; and Ms. Yvonne Lee, Director of International Office.

At the Fiesta, several organisations were invited to perform K-pop dance and demonstrate Taekwondo and was well-received by the audience. Various booths were also set up for participants to experience Korean culture, including Hanbok wearing, Ddakji challenge in the Squid Game, comedy movie screening, instant photos taking and Korean snacks tasting.

Launched by the International Office, CGiR is one of the University’s pioneering international programmes which aims to foster campus internationalisation, enabling a fruitful exchange of world cultures and bringing the world to campus.
