HKBU receives further donation of HK$3 million from Mr. Cheng Chak Kuen for the establishment of Chinese medicine clinical research fund
The University recently received a generous donation of HK$3 million from Mr. Cheng Chak Kuen, Chairman of Dongguan Xingye Trade Development Company Limited, designated for the establishment of the “Cheng Chak Kuen Chinese Medicine Clinical Research Fund” to support the School of Chinese Medicine’s clinical research on long COVID.
In appreciation of Mr. Cheng’s long-standing support, Professor Alexander Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, recently hosted a lunch for Mr. Cheng and his family including his wife Mrs. Cheng Mei Kiu, his daughter Miss Cheng Chiu Kwan, his son Mr. Cheng Kwok Fai and his personal assistant Mr. Zheng Man Sen. They were joined by Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) and Acting Dean of Arts; Ms. Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Bian Zhaoxiang, MH, Associate Vice-President (Chinese Medicine Development); and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation. During the lunch, they exchanged views on the University’s latest strategic developments and Chinese medicine advancement.
Mr. Cheng is a successful rags-to-riches entrepreneur and a generous philanthropist. Over the years, he has actively participated in the development of city and province on the Mainland and promoted Chinese traditional culture. He is also a dedicated supporter of HKBU who has established various bursaries, scholarships and emergency financial relief funds, with the aim of supporting financially needy local students in their pursuit of academic excellence at HKBU, as well as supporting the University to nurture future talent.
