HKBU receives HK$5 million donation from Mrs. Virginia Yim to support Extended Study Programme in GBA

HKBU has received a generous donation of HK$5 million from Mrs. Virginia Yim Tsui Yuk Shan, MH, Director of S.A.S. Electric Company Limited and Member of the Advisory Committee on Arts Development, to support the Extended Study Programme (ESP) in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

In recognition of Mrs. Yim’s generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony was held on 20 September 2023. Officiating at the ceremony were Dr. Stanley Yim Yuk Lun, BBS, JP, Chairman and Managing Director of S.A.S. Dragon Holdings Limited; Mrs. Virginia Yim; Mr. Kevin Yeung Yun Hung, GBS, JP, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism; and Professor Alexander Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU. Other attendees of the ceremony included Mrs. Kevin Yeung; representatives of S.A.S. Dragon Holdings Limited including Mr. Jacky Yim, Executive Director and his wife Mrs. Jeanly Yim, Ms. Carmen Yim, Non-Executive Director, Mr. Jeffrey Yim, Business Director, Ms. Emily Cheng, Mr. Danny Chin, Chief Treasury Officer, as well as Mr. David Wong and Mr. Peter Wong, Executive Directors; representatives of HKBU including Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) and Acting Dean of Arts, Ms. Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary, and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of the University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.

At the ceremony, Professor Wai expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Stanley Yim and Mrs. Virginia Yim for their tremendous support of HKBU over the years. He said at the ceremony, “The donation will provide students with invaluable opportunities to enrich their understanding about the development and opportunities on the Mainland and enhance their competitiveness, empowering them to contribute to Hong Kong and the nation.”

Professor Wai added that HKBU will recruit students every year to study at the BNU-HKBU UIC through the ESP. They will also take internships in various organisations and participate in various experiential learning activities in the GBA.

Dr. Stanley Yim and Mrs. Virginia Yim have made tremendous contributions to the University by supporting its Institutional Strategic Plan 2018-2028 and establishing a student development fund in support of student exchanges, internships and innovative service-learning. Mrs. Yim and Dr. Yim are also Honorary Permanent Presidents of the HKBU Foundation.
