The HKBU Foundation (the Foundation) elected its Board of Governors for a new term on 23 January 2024. Dr. the Hon. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP, has been re-elected as Chairman, with Professor Justin Chiu and Dr. Ronald Lu re-elected as Vice-Chairmen. Mr. Kevin Liem, Treasurer of the Council and the Court of HKBU, will take on the role of Treasurer of the Foundation, an Ex-officio Member of the Board. The four new members of the Board are Dr. Chloe Suen, Mrs. Mary Suen, Mr. Ivan Wong, JP,  and Dr. Stanley Yim, BBS, JP.

Ms. Connie Wong, GBS, JP, and Dr. Stanley Yim have kindly consented to serve as Co-Chairmen of the Entrepreneur Committee under the Board of Governors, while Dr. Chloe Suen and Mr. Ivan Wong will continue to serve as Co-Chairmen of the Young Entrepreneur Committee.  Professor Sunny Wong has been re-appointed as Chairman of the Alumni Committee. The new Board of Governors and its Committees have a term of three years until the end of 2026.  

Dr. Kennedy Wong said that the Foundation will continue to play an integral role in the University’s endeavours to become a leading, research-led liberal arts University in Asia for the world, rendering staunch support to enable the University to realise its vision of academic excellence and contributing to society.    

The Board started the first meeting with a moment of silence in tribute to those who have passed away recently including Ir Dr. K. K. Wong, GBS, JP, FHKEng, former Vice-Chairman of the Board and Co-Chairman of the Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation; and Mr. Brandon Liu, JP, Member of the Board. Dr. Kennedy Wong said both would be remembered for their philanthropic spirit and contributions to HKBU.

During the meeting, Professor Alex Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, gave a presentation on the University’s latest developments as well as the recent research accomplishments and awards earned by its academic staff and students. Members also exchanged views regarding the upcoming celebration of 15th anniversary of HKBU Foundation as well as ways to foster connections with stakeholders in the Greater Bay Area through the Beijing Normal University–Hong Kong Baptist University United International College.
