HKBU participated again in the Hong Kong Flower Show 2024 organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, showcasing nine miniature masterpieces in the Man Lung Garden collection to promote the traditional art of penjing (Chinese bonsai). This year, the University’s exhibits were honoured with the “Merit Award for Outstanding Exhibit (Local)”.

With the theme of “Floral Joy Around Town” featuring “Angelonia” as its theme flower, the Flower Show takes place from 15 to 24 March 2024 at Victoria Park. HKBU’s penjing have been participating in this annual event for nearly 20 years and have received numerous accolades. The penjing displayed by HKBU this time included “Hedera helix”, “Rock growing Fortunella hindsii (Hong Kong Kumquat)” and “Podocarpus macrophyllus (Buddhist Pine), attracting the admiration of many visitors.

HKBU established the Man Lung Garden in 2000 with the generous support from the late Dr. Wu Yee Sun, the founder of Wing Lung Bank, who earned the name of “Sage of Penjing” for his keen interest in penjing. Dr. Wu established the Wu Yee Sun Penjing Foundation Fund through HKBU in support of the development of penjing as an art form. The penjing exhibits in the Man Lung Garden were kindly donated by generous donors and organisations including Dr. Wu Yee Sun, Sha Tin Bonsai Association, Hong Kong Bonsai International Society, Mr. Lui Shu Ying, Mr. Zuo Biu and Mr. Fan Sheung Tak.
