Nine Foundation members and two donors receive honours from HKSAR Government

Nine HKBU Foundation members and two donors of the University were included in this year’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Honours List in recognition of their significant contributions to Hong Kong and their dedicated public and community service.

Grand Bauhinia Medal (GBM)

Dr. the Hon. Albert Hung Chao Hong, GBM, GBS, JP, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the GBM in recognition of his outstanding service to the community, in particular his significant contribution to the promotion and development of sports and culture in Hong Kong. Dr. Hung holds a leading position in major local sports organisations. He has also been serving on the Organising Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Delegation to National Games and National Winter Games and National Intercity Games (now renamed as National Youth Games) for many years, offering invaluable advice on event organisation and actively seeking sponsorship for these events. Dr. Hung has made dedicated effort to the promotion of major sports events in Hong Kong and the development of the “M” Mark events system. This has enhanced not only the market orientation and profitability of sports events, but also their local and international appeal. In addition, Dr. Hung is a staunch supporter of arts and culture, in particular Western classical music, through generous donations to bring prominent leading overseas orchestras to Hong Kong. He is currently President of Goldpoly Asia Limited.

The Hon. Yu Kwok Chun, GBM, GBS, JP, Chairman and Managing Director of Yue Hwa Chinese Products Emporium Limited, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the GBM in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the community over the years. Mr. Yu devotes himself to promoting youth development and supporting youth education. He served on the Council/Court of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) to give strategic advice and steer to the University, and has also provided solid support to the campus expansion plans of PolyU and HKBU. A successful and respectable entrepreneur in retail business, Mr. Yu has taken up important positions in various government advisory bodies and rendered insightful advice, particularly in furthering the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in Hong Kong. Mr. Yu is strongly committed to promoting cohesiveness among overseas Chinese, rallying their support for economic development under the Belt and Road Initiative and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and enhancing their appreciation of Chinese culture.

Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS)

Mr. Wilfred Ng Sau Kei, GBS, MH, JP, Senior Member of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the GBS in recognition of his long and distinguished public and community service, in particular his significant contributions to the promotion and development of sports in Hong Kong. Holding senior positions in a variety of local sports associations and in partnership with the Government, Mr. Ng plays a pivotal role in promoting youth development through participation in sports. Mr. Ng also renders strong support to the promotion of arts and culture, in particular Western classical music, in Hong Kong. Through his generous donations for diverse worthy causes, Mr. Ng is instrumental in building a caring community. He is currently Director of Fidelity Garment Manufactory Ltd.

Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS)

Professor Joseph Ting Sun Pao, BBS, Director of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the BBS in recognition of his dedicated public and community service, particularly his significant contributions to the promotion of culture and museum services, Chinese history and culture, as well as deepening the public awareness of the history of Hong Kong. A respected scholar on the history of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta area, Professor Ting is currently Adjunct Professor of the Department of History, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Aron Hari Harilela, BBS, JP, Sponsoring Member of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the BBS in recognition of his substantial contributions to the business community in Hong Kong. Over the years, he has made unstinting effort in strengthening exchanges between the Government and the business sector and exploring new business opportunities for Hong Kong enterprises, including those arising from the Belt and Road Initiative. Dr. Harilela took up Chairmanship of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce in 2018. He is currently Chairman and CEO of Harilela Hotels Limited.

Mr. Jaime Sze Wine Him, BBS, JP, Investment Director of Hang Tung Resources Holding Ltd., donor of the University, was awarded the BBS in recognition of his enthusiasm in serving the community and active participation in community affairs and youth activities, particularly in youth development. Under his steer, a series of activities and seminars have been successfully organised where prominent figures from various trades and industries are invited to share experience with secondary students. These activities have been highly welcomed by the youth as well as the school sectors.

Medal of Honour (MH)

Dr. Lo Tai Chin, MH, Member of the Entrepreneur Committee and Honorary President of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the MH in recognition of her dedicated and valuable community service, particularly her contributions to the work of Yan Oi Tong and Tuen Mun District. Dr. Lo is currently Vice Chairperson of W. Haking Enterprises Limited.

Mr. Lee Yuk Fat, MH, Member of the Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the MH in recognition of his dedicated and valuable community service, particularly his contributions to the work of Pok Oi Hospital. Mr. Lee is currently Founder of All Shopping H.K.

Mr. Conrad Lee Kwong Wah, MH, Chairman of the Supervisory Council of Kowloon Chamber of Commerce, Honorary Vice-President of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the MH in recognition of his valuable contributions to promoting the development of the commercial and industrial sectors in Hong Kong, as well as his dedicated community and charitable service.

Dr. Amelia Lee Nam Yuk, MH, donor of the University, was awarded the MH in recognition of her dedicated public and community service, particularly her valuable contributions to the development of quality kindergarten education. Dr. Lee is currently Associate Dean (Programme Development) of the School of Continuing Education, HKBU.

Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service

In addition, Mr. Tsang Yiu Tong, Principal President of Chinese Medicine Merchants Association Ltd., Senior Member of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service.
