Young Creative Entrepreneur Award

24 October 2019

Established in 2014, the Young Creative Entrepreneur Award is an annual business start-up programme which aims to support students and graduates of the Academy of Visual Arts to turn their creativity into feasible ventures. The programme is funded by Mr. Brandon T.C. Liu, JP, Member of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, and organised by Centre for Research and Development in Visual Arts, the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University.

Last year’s Young Creative Entrepreneur Award went to the project “DMXuino” proposed by AVA alumna Cheuk Wing Nam of VVing Studio. VVing Studio developed a device combining DMX512 with Arduino and/or Raspberry Pi enabling visual artists of various disciplinary backgrounds to easily control lighting, sounds, and/or other electronic functions beyond extended reaches. This new system is embedded in an online user ecology allowing users to share their experiences and provide feedback to the developer. Together, the DMXuino device and its ecology will develop significant impact on the media arts scene in Hong Kong and beyond.
